My Kanne – Ode to the Old Soul

My kanne (darling), our tender hearts they meet when day falls into the arms of night, so sweet
Like grains of sand in my fist, I hold you tight. Afraid to look, I bury my mind in sands of blight
Softly under my breath; I lament my plight;
"Raa Ri Raa Ro O Raa Ri Ro”

Words they rise from my lips only to sink in my heart, silently.
Like pennies they fall into the bottomless pond, unconsolably.
The flower, she softly seeks for her song to be set free.
Is it fate that she waits, still and heavy, for her honey bee?

Memories go round and round like an old carousel.
When my shadows grow heavy where do I turn for counsel?
“Hush my dear, don’t you cry, don’t you cry”
“Raa Ri Raa Ro O Raa Ri Ro”
A faint echo washes ashore my heart to whisper soft -
“Why must you tear the shadow apart to hold the light aloft?”
“Can the star shine white, without the dark to play his part?"
Make love to your shadow; don’t run from the ache in your heart!”

I am the dark shroud that holds my starlight And the fire that sets my cobwebs alight
I sway to my own beat; I take flight
Never will I lose sight, no more a reason to fight,
that I am the mystery that unfolds for my delight!’
An old prayer rises from my lips to soothe me tonight,
“Raa Ri Raa Ro O Raa Ri Ro”
